Substitute teacher pool: never scramble at 8 AM
Two unplanned teacher absences at 8 AM trigger a 30-minute scramble that leaves Class 5 unsupervised. The fix is a pre-built substitute pool with subject tags, an on-call rota, and a single-click reassignment workflow.

Every principal knows the 8 AM phone scramble: two teachers absent, three classes free, parents about to drop off children. The traditional answer is to "send the librarian" — which means the library closes and a librarian teaches something they don't know.
A better answer: a substitute pool built INTO the timetable.
1. Identify substitutes during recruitment. Every full-time teacher's contract names 2 colleagues who can substitute for their primary subjects. Recently-retired teachers and trained alumni round out the pool.
2. Tag substitutes by subject competence (not just "available"). A Hindi teacher subbing for Physics wastes a period.
3. On-call rota with weekly rotation. Two designated substitutes are "on call" each day — they arrive 30 min early and check the absence sheet.
4. Single-click reassignment in your SMS. The class teacher of the absent teacher's class opens the timetable, picks a substitute from the pool filtered by the same subject, and the substitute's phone gets a notification.
5. Track substitute hours separately for payroll. Substitute pay (per period, not per month) makes the pool sustainable.
The first month of running this drops the unplanned-absence scramble from 30 min to 3 min and improves staff retention because primary teachers know their absence doesn't ruin their colleagues' day.
Vidyakrit's timetable module + teacher attendance + substitute pool tagging make this turnkey.
